Mother, 3-Year-old Hit by Motorcycle

The mother and child were en route to daycare, crossing outside a crosswalk, when a motorcycle struck them on 18th Street

A mother and her three-year-old daughter were hit by a motorcycle in National City Thursday morning as the pair walked to daycare, police confirmed.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. as the mom carried her toddler across the street on eastbound 18th and J streets.

The National City Police Department (NCPD) said the mother was running with the child outside the crosswalk when a motorcyclist traveling eastbound on 18th Street saw them.

In an attempt to avoid striking the pair, police said the motorcyclist slid the bike and fell off. The motorcycle ended up hitting the mother and toddler, police said.

The NCPD said the mother was taken to UCSD Medical Center with unspecified injuries, while the young girl was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital. They are both expected to survive, police said.

The crash is under investigation.
