NFL Implements Enhanced Pat-Downs

Chargers ask fans to give themselves extra time to get to game

Football players won’t be the only ones with hands all over them at the Chargers game this weekend.

Staring Sunday, Sept. 25 the NFL will implement slightly expanded pat-downs at all stadium gates. The expanded pat-down includes the area below the knees and all pat-downs are conducted by same-gender screeners.

The NFL gave the go-ahead to more thorough security measures following an incident where a 59-year-old man tasered a Jets fan during fight at the Jets-Cowboys game on Sept. 11.

The new pat-downs will take a little more time and the team is encouraging patrons to head to the entrance gates earlier than usual for the 1:05 p.m. kickoff.

To accelerate the process, the Chargers strongly suggest that all items be clearly visible; that fans use clear or see-through bags to carry items in, and avoid carrying backpacks or large bags with lots of pockets that need to be opened and inspected.
