NBC 7 Announces Move to New Kearny Mesa Location in 2016

NBC 7 San Diego has finalized the purchase of a new property in Kearny Mesa, where it will relocate its broadcast and business operations in 2016.

Staffers will move from the current offices downtown to the new building at 9680 Granite Ridge Drive in the second quarter of 2016.

NBC 7 General Manager Richard Kelley said in a statement Monday that the new location will bring more efficiency in newsgathering because it will provide easy access to the county’s main thoroughfares. Plus, it will offer employees the advantages of free parking.

“We are thrilled to have identified our new future home and excited by the opportunity to build our new facilities from the ground up,” Kelley said in a statement. “Once complete, our new state-of-the-art broadcast facility will deliver our viewers a truly advanced, local news experience.”

The new two-level building spans more than 50,000 square feet. While development plans aren’t yet finalized, the new building will include a larger news studio as well as room for the station to grow.

NBC 7, San Diego’s only network-owned TV station, announced in January that it wouldn’t be renewing its lease at the 225 Broadway building and would be looking for a new location that would provide employees with more affordable amenities and an improved workspace.

The transaction was brokered by Colliers International, which worked directly with NBC 7 and NBCUniversal’s corporate real estate team.
