‘My Heart Is Breaking'

Two parents are heading to San Jose to see their children who went missing nearly 20 years ago.

"It's a blessing to know that they were alive and well," said a tearful Debbie Baskin.

According to investigators, Debbie's parents, Marvin and Sandra Maple, abducted Mark and Debbie Baskin's children, Christi and Bobby Baskin, from Tennessee in 1989.

"I can't imagine ever hurting my children, so what they've done to me has just been, I've never been able to understand it," Debbie said.

On Monday, authorities got a tip that Marvin Maple, 73, was living in the Bay Area.  Investigators said the tip came in after someone heard Maple talking about the abduction at a San Jose restaurant.

"He was angry about a news report about the kidnapping and how it portrayed him," said Tennessee police Lt. Bill Sharp.

Police in San Jose quickly arrested Maple.

"I'm concerned about him," Debbie said. "I know he's not a nice person, but he's still my father, and my heart is breaking."

"I think he is demented for what he did," Mark Baskin said.

Investigators said Sandra Maple, the victim's grandmother, died in March 2006.  Detectives said the grandparents changed the children's names to Jennifer and Jonathan Bunting. They are both currently live in the Bay Area.

Mark and Debbie Baskin are flying to San Jose on Thursday to be reunited with their children.

"I'm a little bit fearful of what they think about us, because they have been brainwashed for 20 years," Mark said.
