A man and his girlfriend were found dead in their San Marcos home in the early morning hours Monday.
Homicide detectives responded to the home on the 100 block of Valpreda Rd. near the 78 freeway after someone inside the home reported hearing gunshots, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
The man and the woman live in the house with their 2-year-old daughter and the man's parents. The man's brother lives in a house two doors down, the brother said.
The man allegedly handed his daughter to his parents, shot his girlfriend and then shot himself, according to friend Gary Gonzales, who spoke to the male victim's brother.
The brother arrived at the same time as police to see what was happening.
Investigators believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. Detectives now have a search warrant for the house.
Gonzales said he and the male victim took their kids to Chuck E Cheese just the day before. The two went to high school together in San Marcos and often got together with their kids.
Gonzales added that the man recently lost his job at Blockbuster.
