A woman who jumped into action to help a motorcyclist injured in a crash near San Diego State University (SDSU) told NBC 7 she was glad he was going to be alright.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. Wednesday on Montezuma Road and Collwood Boulevard in Mid-City.
SDPD officers say the rider, Alex Barbosa, slid across the ground and struck a sign post.
Andrea Davilan, a student at SDSU along with Barbosa told NBC 7 on Friday that she heard somone scream for help and ran to help.
"He was losing a lot of blood, so the person on the phone when I called 911 told me to put pressure," Davilan said. She continued to administer first-aid until paramedics arrived on scene.
According to those who know him, doctors were forced to amputate his right leg but he will be alright.
On Friday, approximately 150 people gathered at Sunset Cliffs to show support for Barbosa and his family.

"There's an account for meals to be sent to them," said Karinna Feliciano, a friend of Barbosa's. "There's a Halloween fundraiser next weekend. All proceeds to him and medical bills."
As for Davilian, she said she is glad Barbosa is alive.
Barbosa is part of a close, tight-knit Portugese community in Point Loma, according to his friends.
Police say speed did play a factor in the crash. Barbosa had been traveling at approximately 90 mph at the time.
