22-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Crashes on Freeway During Storm

A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing just after 10 p.m. Friday night on the State Route 76 off-ramp near northbound Interstate 5.

It was raining heavily with thunder and lightning at the time, CHP said.

As the victim drove onto the off-ramp, he veered to the left side of the road up a dirt embankment. The motorcycle got back to the paved part of the road and the driver was thrown 100 feet from his bike.

CHP says wet roads from the rain caused the crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
