Motorcyclist Dies in Lomita Crash

A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon after crashing into a curb and being ejected from his motorcycle, according to the Calfornia Highway Patrol.

The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. on westbound Jamacha Road just east of Osage Drive in Lomita, CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.

The rider failed to slow for the sweeping left-hand curve in the road, causing his blue 2018 Harley Davidson Sportster to drift and hit the concrete curb, he said.

The motorcycle continued out of control on the rock and dirt embankment where the rider was ejected from the motorcycle, Garrow said.

The 48-year-old man from was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he died. His identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the fatal crash.
