More Victims in Altar Boy Molest Case: Report

More children have come forward accusing an altar boy supervisor of sexual abuse, according to a published report.

San Diego police arrested a San Diego Unified School District employee May 15 and charged him with sexually abusing a 14-year old boy, a teenager who was allegedly molested while he served as an altar boy at a local church.

Daniel “Danny” Herrera worked for the district since 1985, most recently as a special education bus monitor, according to police. However, the charges do not involve a student of the Unified District.

The alleged victim had been an altar boy under Herrera's supervision. The charges stem from an incident that happened near the end of 2005 but wasn’t reported until October 2008.

Herrera pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday to one count of child molestation. Prosecutors are discussing the case in the interest of making sure there are no other victims in the area.

At a bail review hearing Friday, prosecutors announced more alleged victims have come forward according to 10news.com. No other details were provided.

Herrera volunteered at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Saint Jude Shrine of the West, and Our Lady of Angels. He also volunteered at Whitman Elementary School in their arts program as well as volunteered and managed two dance groups – Floor Masters and Street Sensation -- during the past twenty years, police said.

Parents and guardians are asked to talk to their children and to report any inappropriate conduct between their children and Herrera to the San Diego Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit at (619) 531-2260.

Herrera has no previous criminal record. He's being held on $100,000 bail.
