Montgomery Field Polling Place Briefly Moved After Suspicious Device Found

A polling place at Montgomery Field in Kearny Mesa had to be moved after an employee found a suspicious device in a trashcan on the grounds.

The San Diego Police Department said they were called after the janitor found what looked like a grenade in a restroom trash can.

The polling place was briefly moved to St. Columbia Catholic School on Glencolum Drive.

When the building was evacuated, the precincts inspector director gathered the secure ballot box and kept it with him, the Registrar of Voters office said.

At the time there were five voters inside. They were escorted outside where they completed their ballot and placed inside the secure ballot box.

Around the same time, about 15 voters showed up and were directed to the nearest polling place with the same ballot type.

In less than an hour, everyone was allowed back in and continued voting as normal
