Mom Accused of Helping Molester Boyfriend Escape

Candace Watson and fugitive sex offender Robbi Potter were arrested Tuesday

A mother who was found in Valley Center with her missing 4-year-old daughter and her convicted child molester boyfriend waived extradition to Ohio Thursday.

The trio had been living at the Morning Star ranch, described as a place for people who share a common faith and pot, meaning their income is shared. Robbi Potter, 27, and Candace Watson, 24, worked in the kitchen and on the ranch until they were arrested Tuesday.

Watson signed extradition papers in a hearing before San Diego Superior Court Judge David Szumowski Thursday, who ordered her held without bail. Watson will be returned to Ohio where she’s wanted on charges of felony complicity.

“Complicity means that she aided and abetted in the escape of this man, Robbie Potter, from a Federal halfway house, where he was apparently doing time for having been convicted of molesting two little girls,” said Deputy District Attorney Jane Via.

A hearing was set for July 15 to make sure authorities from Ohio have picked her up.

Potter was convicted of sexual battery on a minor involving two young girls, Via said. He was arraigned Wednesday in federal court in San Diego for allegedly violating terms of his supervised release in northern Ohio.

The girl was not harmed, and will soon be reunited with her grandmother in Ohio.
