Mobile Home Fire in La Mesa

A mobile home near an elementary school caught on fire Wednesday in La Mesa.

The fire started around 9:30 a.m. at a mobile home on Oakland Drive at the Lake Murray Mobile Home Park.

Heartland Fire Department arrived and found flames and smoke coming from the home.

They searched for any victims but it appeared there was no one home during the fire.

Maryland Avenue Elementary School took emergency measures after they were made aware of the fire.

One neighbor tells NBC 7 he tried to stop the flames using fire extinguisher but it didn’t help.

John Hamilton said he rushed to grab a fire extinguisher when the fire spread really fast.

"It just went up in flames," Hamilton said.

The owner of the damaged mobile home has been a resident there for nearly 30 years, he said.
