Fiery Crash Causes Power Outages in Mira Mesa

The crash happened just after midnight along the 10100-block of Camino Ruiz

A suspected drunk driver crashed into parked cars and two electricity boxes in Mira Mesa causing extensive damage and a power outage for hundreds of customers.

More than 500 customers were without power at one point because San Diego Gas and Electric had to turn off the power early Tuesday.

The crash happened just after midnight along the 10100-block of Camino Ruiz.

A driver lost control and crashed into two electricity boxes.

A responding officer had to pull the driver out of the burning car. The driver was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with minor injuries. Officers say once the man is better, he’ll be taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

SDG&E crews responded to the scene and got the power back on by 4:30 a.m. However, at about 5:15 a.m., crews returned when something went wrong and left some customers without power for a second time.
