San Diego State University students and alumni are mourning a popular political science professor who has passed away after battling cancer.

Michael Stoddard, Ph. D., 74, known around campus as "Doc Stoddard", taught in the political science department.

Stoddard helped shape the lives and careers of thousands of students over three decades through his work at SDSU, the University of San Diego, and at his study abroad programs in Oxford, England.

After earning his Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate at UCLA, Stoddard went on to teach at the university and then serve as an instructor for the U.S. Navy aboard USS Constellation and USS Eisenhower.
