A San Diego-based sailor who served as a K9 handler died Saturday from injuries he sustained while serving in Afghanistan.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael J. Brodsky, 33, of Tamarac, Fla., died July 21 of injuries he suffered two weeks earlier from an improvised explosive device.

Friends and family followed Brodsky’s progress through a Facebook page that was updated Saturday reporting that Brodsky had passed away.

The site has since turned into a memorial page with several images of Brodsky and his military working dogs.
