Potential Mental Hospital Patient Escapes

Patient was a transient who police believe left the hospital

Police began searching Wednesday morning for a transient believed to have wandered out of a mental hospital.

The man is a patient at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital in San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police say he may have "escaped" from the hospital sometime Wednesday morning. It is unknown at this time when hospital staff became aware of the patient's absence.

Kearny High School is located just down the street from the hospital. School police have been notified and are searching the campus for him.

The school has not been placed on lockdown. Authorities believe he is a transient, but poses no real threat to the students or surrounding residents.
