Memorial to be Held for Austin Bice

A special memorial will be held for San Diego State exchange student Austin Bice on Sunday.

The family's website says in lieu of flowers, they request donations be made to the Austin Bice Memorial Trust. Part of the fund will go towards men and women serving in the armed forces, according to the website Bice was in awe of their efforts to serve their country.

Austin was studying economics and finance at the University Carlos III of Madrid when we went missing. After a 10-day search, his body was found in the Manzanares river in Madrid, close to where he was last seen.

A Madrid newspaper reported that bouncers refused Bice entry into a nightclub because he appeared to be too intoxicated. Friends say he decided to walk home. A friend says police believe the last time Bice was seen was at a fast food restaurant close to the river where his body was found.

The memorial will be held Sunday, March 20, at the San Dieguito United Memorial Church in Encinitas at 1 p.m.

Students at the University Carlos III of Madrid also plan to have a memorial for Bice next week, according to the Spanish Paper El Pais.
