Local Eateries Offer Quick, Easy Memorial Day Grub

Memorial Day is the official kickoff to the summer season, but the holiday wouldn’t be complete without some tasty eats

A quick search on Yelp produces some of the most popular places to grab all the holiday grub you’ll need this weekend: take-out or dine-in. So kick back, relax and nosh your way through the long weekend, while remembering our U.S. military heroes.

Cardiff Seaside Market (Cardiff-by-the-Sea)
This deli is downright delicious and absolutely full of options for you to stock up on everything you might need for the weekend. Insider’s Tip: they’ll do all the work! The butcher can help you select the best beef to barbeque and for that picnic on the beach, simply grab something from the deli. We suggest the Hawaiian Plate for $7.99! It includes sides of rice and macaroni salad, plus your choice of teriyaki chicken, burgundy tri-tip, Kailua pork, grilled ono, seared tuna, teriyaki salmon or lemon pepper salmon.

Water’s Fine Foods (Solana Beach)
Water’s Fine Foods has a fantastic feast laid out in the café for take-out or dining in (plus, it’s only a couple blocks to the beach). How about packing a picnic with a Southwest Chicken Wrap full of Achiote chicken, black bean and corn salsa, cherry tomatoes, jack cheese, chipotle aioli and citrus vinaigrette paired with the fresh Gemelli Pesto Pasta Salad – pine nuts, pesto, kalamata olives, oven dried tomatoes and Parmesan. What a mouthful! Of course, don’t forget to grab the very popular chocolate chunk cookies or the Valrhona Chocolate brownies for dessert.

Tip Top Meats & European Delicatessen (Carlsbad)
Party with a platter from Tip Top and check out the deli trays – a solid choice with Big John’s high quality cheeses and meats. If you’re looking for a full meal deal, order off the lunch or dinner menus for take-out. Try the Country Style Pork ribs, a giant portion of BBQ marinated pork ribs, or the Chicken Cordon stuffed with imported ham and Swiss cheese with mashed potatoes and gravy broth with their famous red cabbage, sauerkraut and a dinner roll.

Primo Food Mart (Vista)
You can smell the BBQ cooking from a mile away, so why fire up your own grill? At Primo Food Mart, you can get everything you need for a proper Memorial Day meal. The meat here is slow-cooked and sold Thursday through Sunday, with an extensive menu to from which to choose. Turkey legs, wings, chicken, tri-tip, beef and pork ribs abound and it doesn’t stop there: snag some ceviche, guacamole and their homemade salsa too (10 different varieties). All the side dishes you desire are sold by the pound, so don’t forget the coleslaw and macaroni salad.

Thyme In The Ranch (Rancho Santa Fe)
This place is cash or check only, so grab your green and stop by if you’re headed to a celebration and want to bring the perfect snack to share. The menu includes whole homemade pies, cookies, muffins and more – truly the icing to your party plate. If you’re looking for something savory, grab a quart of chili or something from the specialty menu like the stuffed peppers, twice-baked potatoes and pasta salads. Calling ahead is a good idea if you’re ordering a lot, as the offerings can vary.
