The South Bay city took it on the chin last week during the Fox show’s broadcast, critics say in a published report.
An episode of “Secret Millionaire,” a reality show focused on the wealthy giving to the less fortunate, that aired on Wednesday featured Newport Beach residents Greg Ruzicka and son Cole spending time in the city before giving more than $100,000 to local residents.
Critics including Imperial Beach Mayor Janney took umbrage at how their city was represented. Janney complained to the paper that a wrecking yard shown in the broadcast is not in his city.
Another criticism the paper pointed out: a on-air graphic stating that there “250,000 people live below the poverty line” in the city of 28,000.
