Marine Dies After a Fight Far From the Battlefield

Thomas Elliott was involved in a fight near a North County restaurant.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers and Investigators from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Encinitas Station are asking for assistance from the public in identifying the suspect responsible for throwing a fatal punch during a fight.

A U.S. Marine sergeant died following a fight near a North County restaurant.  

Sgt. Thomas Elliott was involved in a confrontation Feb. 27 outside Yogi's Bar and Restaurant in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Elliot was found unconscious in a parking lot after a fight between two groups of men around 2:00 a.m. that Saturday.  The restaurant's owner says he and his staff did not see or hear anything.

Elliot  was first  taken to his brother's home in Oceanside, but was eventually airlifted to the hospital. He died two days later from head injuries.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the identity and/or location of the persons responsible for this crime to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
