Marine Reservist Stun Guns Alleged Crook

He chased the suspect for a quarter mile

Marine Corps reservist witnessed a man allegedly steal a woman's purse Thursday outside a North County mall and then chased and subdued the man with a stun gun, authorities confirmed.

The quarter-mile Rancho Penasquitos chase started in a Black Mountain Road shopping center.

The reservist, whose name has not been released, reported he saw Brandon Leigh Eads, 24, open a woman's passenger door and grab her purse, police said.

The reservist then pursued Eads to near the intersection of Paseo Montalban and Twin Trails Drive where he used the stun gun.

Police arrived shortly thereafter and arrested Eads, who was treated for minor injuries.

The woman was not injured, and the reservist will not be charged with any crimes, police said.
