Mardi Gras Kicks Off Tonight, San Diego Style

Thousands of people are expected to head to 17th Annual Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp on Tuesday night.

This year the outdoor block party will feature a colorful parade as well as music, food, and of course, plenty of drinks.

"There are so many things new about this year's Mardi Gras, it has really taken on a Southern California flavor," said Brandy Shimabukuro with the Gaslamp Quarter Association.

The party will have Go-Go dancers dressed up as fairies, Hip-hop dancers and separate dance sections featuring urban house and techno.

"We are really excited about the DJ line up. We have some fantastic DJ's like Crystal Method, Sharam, DJ Rap, Call Me Shannon," Shimabukuro said.

Bring your friends out for a night of dancing, partying, and tons and tons of beads!

The party started 17 years ago. It used to be just one city block in the Gaslamp and now the party has spread out over several city blocks.

The block party starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until Midnight. Tickets are $20 if purchased advance and $25 at the gate.
