Many Teachers Taken Out of the Equation

School Board decides to make cuts in other areas

Only a few of the 1,400 San Diego County teachers receiving pink slips this year may actually lose their jobs.

That news was met with a round of applause at the San Diego Unified School District Board meeting Tuesday night.

Board members proclaimed they made a decision to face the budget crisis together and face it unified.

School Districts statewide are committed to rescind teacher layoff notices by finding budget cuts in other areas.

Decisions will be made based on the budget beginning July 1, 2009.

The budget is contingent on federal stimulus dollars and the passage of a series of ballot measures next month.
