Man Stabbed to Death During Fight Over Phone, Police Say

Girlfriend arrested, booked for murder

Police arrested a woman Tuesday morning after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death.

The incident happened at about 8.55 a.m. in the Teresina apartment complex on Santa Cora Ave. in Otay Ranch.

Police in Chula Vista responded to a call that the man, 24-year-old Tyler Henderson, had been "accidentally stabbed," according to police at the scene.

Henderson sustained several stab wounds to his abdomen, according to the San Diego Fire Dept. He was taken to the emergency room, where he died.

Police said the man's girlfriend, 36-year-old Xochilt Tobon, lived in the Otay Mesa apartment complex with their child, her sister and her sister's child.

Police say Henderson and Tobon got into a fight was over a phone, which may have led to the stabbing, accidental or not.

Tobon was booked in the Las Colinas Detention Facility for murder, according to Chula Vista police.

"This is either going to be a domestic violence criminal act, or a terrible accident," said Sgt. Rusty Rea with Chula Vista Police Department.
