Man Posing As Cop For Sex Learns Fate

An Oceanside security guard who pleaded guilty to posing as a peace officer in an attempt to get sex from a woman received his sentence Tuesday.

The judge ordered Terry Ware to spend 18 months in prison.  He also received credit for time served.

Prosecutors said last November, Ware approached a couple parked in a public parking lot and asked them for identification.  He then placed the woman in the backseat of his vehicle, saying he wouldn't issue a ticket, in exchange for oral sex.

The woman refused and he let her go.

Deputy District Attorney Christine Trevino said she thinks the sentence does not fit the crime.

"In today's society where people need police officers to be able to trust, it's very scary that people represent themselves to be police officers and then get sexed," Trevino said.

At the time of the incident, Ware was employed by a private security company to patrol the Oceanside Transit Center.
