Car Takes Off After Hitting Man in Wheelchair: El Cajon Police

A man in a wheelchair was found unconscious with life-threatening injuries in El Cajon Thursday night after being struck by a car that took off, police said. 

The 58-year-old man was found lying in the center of E. Main Street near S. Anza Street at about 9:30 p.m., El Cajon Police Department Lt. Steve Kirk said.

According to witnesses, the man was crossing E. Main Street outside of an intersection when he was struck by a silver Nissan Altima, Kirk said. The driver did not stop and took off westbound on E. Main Street. 

The man had life-threatening injuries to his head and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver has not been located.
