Man in Custody After Leading Police on Chase from National City to Middletown

A man was in custody Saturday after leading police a chase from National City to Middletown.

The pursuit started around 3:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Roosevelt Avenue when officers tried to pull over a vehicle for an expired registration tag, according to the National City Police Department (NCPD).

The driver headed onto Interstate 5 North all the way to the Washington Street exit where NCPD officers lost track of the car, but San Diego Police Department (SDPD)ABLE helicopter was able to continue to follow the vehicle, according to the NCPD.

The suspect then drove onto the trolley tracks at the Middletown Station near California and Palm streets and bailed out of the car, police said.

Police then chased the suspect on foot and he was arrested after officers deployed a K9 unit to apprehend him, according to the NCPD.
