Suspect attempted to steal musical instruments from an Allied Gardens church

A man wearing a purple sequined skirt and a small white shirt attempted to steal musical instruments from an Allied Gardens church early Wednesday morning, police said.

A concerned citizen called police after they spotted a suspicious person walking around the Palisades Presbyterian Church on Carthage and Birchwood streets, according to Sgt. Dean Thomas of the San Diego Police Department.

Police arrived to find a pile of musical instruments in the bed of the man's truck.

The suspect was wearing a white piece of material that resembled a shirt and a piece of of sparkly, purple material around his waist. The material had no back, and the suspect was not wearing underwear, according to police.

As officers approached the suspect, he ran away, managing to jump over a 6-foot tall chainlink fence.

Police caught up with him and have since taken him into custody, Thomas said. They identified him as 39-year-old Joshua Baker.

He was booked and charged with burglarly and obstructing an officer.

He was likely under the influence, but authorities said they aren't sure whether the influence was drugs or alcohol.
