A man survived a garage fire in Oceanside overnight.
Flames were reported in the detached garage of a home on Oceanside Boulevard near Hoover Street around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The home is located east of Interstate 5.
Oceanside firefighters say the fire appears to be accidental but the cause is still under investigation.
Crews say the man who was sleeping in the garage is lucky to have escaped because the building did not have smoke alarms.
The family and a small dog escaped the smoke and flames.
A friend was sleeping in the garage when that fire started. He smelled the smoke and got out of the garage and then knocked on his friend's front door at the main residence.
The only damage to the home was a broken window.
