Man Struck by Car, Run Over by Van

Victim in critical condition with head, leg injuries

A man who walked into an Old Town traffic lane Wednesday night was struck by a car (pictured above), and as the driver called 911, a second vehicle ran the victim over and drove away.

Police said the second driver, described as a Filipino man in his 40s wearing a hat, briefly stopped before fleeing southbound at 4700 Pacific Highway.

The 29-year-old victim was transported to UCSD Medical Center where he is in critical condition with significant head injuries and a lower leg and ankle fracture.

The victim’s head smashed into the car windshield when the first driver, a 25-year-old woman in a Ford Focus, struck him at 10:20 p.m. She said the man walked into the path of her car.

She was not believed to be speeding or under the influence of alcohol, and she was not cited.

Soon after, the unknown suspect drove over the victim with a dark blue Chevrolet Astro van.
