Man Sought in Burned-Body Case

The death of a woman whose body was found inside a burned out car at UCSD has been ruled a homicide.

The grisly discovery was made in a parking lot late on Friday night at the campus near Torrey Pines. On Monday, police said an autopsy had determined the woman was a victim of murder.

Also on Monday, police said they were searching for the estranged husband of a Carlsbad woman who has been missing since last week. She was the registered owner of the charred vehicle found last week.

The woman's ex has been identified by police as Julia Garcia-Puente, 50. He weighs 170 pounds and is 5 feet 8 inches tall.

So far, the victim has not been identified. However, officials do not believe the woman was a student at the college.

Detectives say Garcia-Puente has been known to frequent cities from Carlsbad to San Marcos. Law enforcement officials are urging anybody with information about the case or Garcia-Puente's whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
