Man Gravely Injured in Normal Heights Shooting

Detectives said 18-year-old victim was shot while walking with friends on Swift Avenue

An 18-year-old man is in grave in condition after a shooting in Normal Heights Friday night.

Detectives said the victim, as well as several of his friends, were walking in the 4400 block of Swift Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

They encountered a group of eight to 10 males near the corner of Swift Avenue and Monroe Avenue and a brief verbal exchange occurred between the two groups, according to investigators.

The victim’s group then headed south on Swift Avenue and a member from the suspect group fired multiple gunshots, one of which struck the 18-year-old.

Detectives said the suspects fled in an unknown direction after the shooting.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is currently in grave condition.

Further information about the victim’s identity has not been released.
