Man Sentenced for Giving Alcohol to Teens Leading to Fatal Crash

A San Diego man who gave alcohol to a teenager in the hours before her death in a traffic collision was sentenced Wednesday to 8 months in custody and 3 years of probation.

Fraidoon Ahmad bought two 19-year-old women wine and tequila at a hookah lounge then took the women to his home where he served them more alcohol, the City Attorney's Office said.

The friend, Yolanda Lozano, lost control and slammed her vehicle into a truck parked on the shoulder of northbound I-15 just south of University Avenue.

Mabel Bahena was killed in the crash. Lozano was sentenced to serve 365 days in custody following a guilty plea to a gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charge.

In addition to being sentenced Tuesday to 240 days in custody, Lozano will be on probation for three years and must complete nine days of work service, according to the City Attorney's Office.

The City Attorney's Office said Ahmad will serve through the Sheriff's County Parole and Alternative Custody program and it will be up to sheriff's offiicals to decide how he serves his time in custody.

Lozano and Bahena met up with Ahmad at the Myst Hookah Lounge in the Gaslamp Quarter. Lozano was responding to an ad that Ahmad posted online, seeking prospective employees for a job at a marijuana dispensary.

Ed. Note: The original version of this article stated the defendant would serve 8 months in jail. We have altered the article to reflect that he will serve his time in custody and that the San Diego County Sheriff's Department will determine the location of that sentence.
