Man Robbed at Gunpoint While Changing Flat Tire

The roadside robbery happened on Interstate 5 and involved three suspects

A man was robbed at gunpoint on Interstate 5 Wednesday after pulling over to the side of the freeway to change out a flat tire, the California Highway Patrol said.

The robbery – which involved three suspects – happened around 7:50 p.m.

The victim had stopped on the right shoulder of I-5 to change out his tire. As he was working on his car, a black compact vehicle occupied by three men pulled up behind the victim’s car.

Two men got out of the vehicle and approached the victim. CHP investigators say that’s when one of the men brandished a firearm and stole the victim’s wallet, cell phone and jewelry. As that was happening, the second suspect stole a backpack from the victim’s car.

CHP investigators say the two suspects then returned to their vehicle and were quickly driven away from the scene by the third suspect, who stayed in the driver’s seat the entire time.

The victim was not injured.

According to investigators, the first suspect is described as being 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-5, with a goatee. The second suspect is described as 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10. All three suspects were in their 20s.
