Man Points Laser at Chopper. Yes, The Cops Came

Moral of this story: If you point a laser at a sheriff's helicopter to see if they’ll show up at your house -- they probably will.

A 20-year-old Escondido man found that out the hard way on Wednesday after allegedly pointing the laser at a San Diego County sheriff's helicopter from his backyard at about 2:35 a.m.

The crew of the Astrea-3 helicopter was returning to Gillespie Field in El Cajon at the time. The crew could see three people standing around a backyard fire pit.

Two witnesses told Escondido officers that the laser pointer, whose name wasn't released, told them he wanted to see if police would show up, Deputy Scott Bligh said.

They did.

The helicopter crew directed Escondido police to the man's home, where he was arrested and booked for investigation of felony discharging a laser at an aircraft.
