Man Killed Trying to Cross Tracks Under Moving Train: Officials

A man attempting to cross the tracks under a moving train was killed early Friday in San Diego, officials said.

Investigators with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department say the man, described as 20 to 30 years old, was killed near Market Street and Harbor Drive around 12:30 a.m.

A northbound Northern Santa Fe freight train was traveling through downtown San Diego near the Embarcadero when it appears the man tried to cross the tracks under the moving train, officials said.

Deputies say the railroad crossing lights and alarm bells were going off at the time and the crossing arms were down.

The man’s identity has not been released.
