Man Dies in Chula Vista Motorcycle Crash

The crash happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of E Street and Toyon Lane.

A man was killed in a Chula Vista motorcycle accident early Thursday and investigators say speed may have been a factor.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of E Street and Toyon Lane.

Investigators say the man riding on the motorcycle appears to have jumped a curb before crashing into a light pole.

Chula Vista police Officer Rusty Nelson said witnesses reported hearing the sound from the crash and then seeing the victim.

β€œNext thing they knew, they heard a big crash, ran up here. The helmet had already come off I guess during impact,” Nelson said.

Those witnesses started CPR on the 27-year-old male according to Nelson.

Medics transported the motorcycle rider to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Charles Anthony Sanfilippo, II, of Chula Vista, was identified as the victim by the county medical examiner.

No other vehicles were involved, police said.

At this point, investigators aren’t sure if alcohol was involved in the crash but they do believe speeding was a factor.
