Man Arrested with Duffel Bag Full of Meth

The meth bundles have a street value of nearly $1 million

A man was arrested Thursday on Interstate 15 on suspicion of smuggling 40 bundles of meth, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Saturday.

U.S. Border Patrol agents pulled the man over at the Old 395 Highway overpass on northbound I-15, north of the Murrieta checkpoint after the man exhibited "unusual and suspicious driving behavior," Border Patrol Agent Eduard Olmos said.

Inside the man's pick-up truck, agents found a duffle bag contain 40 vacuum-sealed bags that were later confirmed to be meth, Olmos said.

Records checks also revealed that the truck had a prior history of human and drug smuggling, he said.

The man, a 41-year-old U.S. citizen, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration to face drug-smuggling charges.

β€œThis drug seizure made by our Border Patrol agents not only keeps these drugs out of our communities, thereby making them safer, it also denies the (transnational criminal organization) the profits derived from their eventual sale.” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott said in a statement.

The meth bundles totaled to more than 45 pounds with a street value of more than $830,000, according to the CBP.
