Man Arrested in Pedestrian Fatal

San Diego police are investigating the death of a man who was struck by a car in the middle of a Mira Mesa street Wednesday.

Officers say they’ve arrested a man who was speeding along Sunny Meadow Street just before 7 a.m. and struck a man standing in the road.

The victim, described by officers as a 25-year-old man, was killed officers said.

A family member at the scene identified the victim as Efrain Romeo Arguenta. She said the driver knew Arguenta through his employer.

The driver of the 1993 Ford Ranger involved in the incident faces charges of felony DUI, officers said. He was identified as 26-year-old Matias Aguilar.

Aguilar has been booked at San Diego Central jail and faces three charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence. His bail was set to $200,000.

Sunny Meadow Street is located northwest of Challenger Middle School, north of Mira Mesa Boulevard.
