Man Arrested for Street Racing with His Baby in the Backseat in Court

Authorities found a 6-month old baby riding unrestrained in the backseat

A man accused of leading authorities on a high-speed chase with his 6-month old baby riding unrestrained in the backseat made his first appearance in court Monday.

Jesus Mendoza Figueroa was arrested on May 2nd. He was allegedly racing on the northbound Interstate 15.

Figueroa was driving at speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to a CHP officer. When the officer tried to pull him over, Figueroa did not stop but continued driving and exited on University Avenue.

Figueroa then crashed into another car at an estimated 60 miles per hour. The impact caused the other driver’s car to flip over.

The driver, a 30-year old woman, and her two dogs were not harmed, officials said.

CHP officers arrested Figueroa after they discovered the baby in the backseat of his car. They also found open containers and marijuana in the car.
