Man Arrested After Deputy Stabbed in Face

A man wanted in connection to a violent attack on a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy was arrested in Las Vegas.

Chula Vista police said Danny Burke stabbed the deputy several times in the face last Monday night. The deputy was off duty and in plain clothes at the time of the incident. The officer's name has not been released, but officials said he is a six-year veteran.

The deputy was at a pizza restaurant in Chula Vista with friends on Monday. When Burke found out the victim was a deputy, he became agitated, officials said. Burke allegedly followed the deputy into the parking lot at about 11 p.m. and stabbed him with some type of sharp object, possibly a knife.

Investigators said Burke fled after the stabbing.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive the attack, according to authorities.

Detectives got a break in the investigation on Friday when someone tipped them off that Burke was in Las Vegas. He was  arrested at about 11 a.m.

Burke, who is in the process of being extradited to San Diego, faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon.
