Machete-Wielding Robbery Suspect Arrested

Danny G. Molestina, 28, is accused of wielding a machete while robbing a La Mesa gas station on July 18

Police have arrested a male suspect in connection with a gas station robbery in which he allegedly threatened a clerk with a machete.

Police confirmed Thursday that 28-year-old San Diego resident Danny G. Molestina is now in custody. He's accused of robbing the Circle K/76 gas station located at 8899 La Mesa Blvd. on July 18.

Molestina allegedly entered the store just before 10 p.m. that night, walked up to the clerk and brandished a machete. He fled the store with the clerk’s cash drawer and money from the register, according to investigators.

Citizens later recovered the machete and cash drawer in the area surrounding the gas station and alerted police.

On July 22, Molestina was arrested by the Chula Vista Police Department for an unrelated robbery. Investigators were then able to link him to the machete-wielding La Mesa robbery.

He’s currently being held at the George Bailey Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
