Mom Accidentally Runs Over Toddler

The child suffered a fractured femur in the accident

A 2-year-old boy was injured Saturday in San Diego’s Loma Portal area after the child’s mother accidentally ran over him while backing out of a driveway, officials confirmed.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the 37-year-old mother was driving her 2013 Toyota Prius just before noon in the 3600-block of Oleander Drive.

Unbeknownst to her, the toddler was in the driveway and as she backed up the vehicle, she accidentally rolled over the little boy’s leg.

The child sustained a fractured femur, officials said, and was transported to a local hospital. He's expected to make a full recovery.

The incident remains under investigation. Officials said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Last October, 5-year-old Bella Noble was killed in a tragic accident while her family visited a friend's house in Ramona. Bella and her siblings were playing in the driveway, sitting on the back bumper of her mother's van.

Unaware that the children were playing behind the vehicle, Bella’s mother backed the car up. As Bella jumped off the bumper, she was struck by the van – not once, but twice. The girl was airlifted to a hospital but died a shortly thereafter.
