Local Non-Profit Remodels Disabled Veteran's Home

A local non-profit will begin its tenth home remodel for a disabled Vietnam veteran on Monday.

Embrace along with volunteer contractors and members of the community will spend over 500 housing remodeling Specialist Fourth Class Steven Ellenson’s home in Lakeside.

Ellenson joined the Army in 1968 as a military policeman. After his promotion to Sp4 he volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he served on a convoy escort team.

He suffers from permanent PTSD making it difficult to begin or complete necessary home renovations.

"Embrace is particularly excited to serve Steven Ellenson and his wife Judy, not only because they represent our 10th remodel, but because Steven is our first beneficiary to serve in Vietnam. We are eager to work with Sundt Construction, to ensure this remodel is as impactful as the previous nine." Said Embrace Founder, Sean Sheppard.

The scope of the remodel includes major property cleanup, central air installation, new concrete front driveway, new deck and privacy fencing, flooring replacement, complete kitchen and bathroom remodel, appliance replacement, re-wiring of the entire house, installation of energy efficient windows and new fencing. The materials and labor are estimated to be worth approximately $60,000.

Founded in 2000, Embrace mobilizes college students to help people in the community.
