Local Man Arrested in Taiwan, Accused of Molest

An American man facing charges of molesting children at a California day care center was arrested in Taiwan and is on his way back to California, according to a published report.

Mark Lee Kaczmarczyk, 58, was arrested in Taipei on Sunday, said Ma Chen-hua, an official of Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau. He said police were preparing deportation proceedings against him.

Kaczmarczyk faces six charges of molestation at a day care center he operated with his wife in San Diego. He fled a $2 million bail in December 2007 when undertaking compulsory treatment for sexual harassment, according to the Taiwanese police.

Police tracked him down after the U.S. Federal Investigation Bureau informed them that Kaczmarczyk left Hong Kong for Taiwan in early January, Ma said.

A mother of an alleged victim talked with a local television station, explaining that Kaczmarczyk ran a day care out of his Mission Valley apartment.

The woman, who was not identified in the article, claimed the service was called "Anita's Daycare" according to an article on the station's website.

An FBI spokesman spoke to the San Diego Union-Tribune about the case saying San Diego police investigated the original complaint against the couple and that the District Attorney's Office filed charges against Kaczmarcyzk. The FBI got involved after the suspect fled to Taiwan, according to the U-T.
