Firefighters Deliver Christmas Spirit

Christmas came a little early this year, thanks to the help of San Diego firefighters. Continuing a tradition started 21 years ago, firefighters delivered gifts to nine needy San Diego families on Monday.

"Well this is our 22nd year, this is kind of an extension of what we do all year long, we help people out," said Fire Captain Frank De Clerq.

The program is done in conjunction with Santa, of course, San Diego City Schools and several sponsors.

Firefighters donate money from each of their paychecks into a Community Responsibility Fund and that is what helps to pay for these toys, De Clerq said.

Everyone is going through a tough time, the economy is bad and the people we are helping here today are really experiencing the worst part of it, he added.

The families were chosen by San Diego City Schools.
