Fire Chief Augie Ghio Injured in Motorcycle Crash

San Miguel Fire Chief Augie Ghio has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident

Officials from the San Miguel Fire District have confirmed that San Miguel Fire Chief Augie Ghio has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a motorcycle accident.

Officials said Ghio was riding a Harley Davidson Saturday morning on State Route 78 near the Anza-Borrego Desert at the time of the crash.

The 60-year-old fire chief was airlifted to a hospital, where he is currently in serious but stable condition.

Ghio has worked in fire service for 31 years, including 29 years with the City of San Diego.

He was planning to retire as chief on Wednesday.
