Lobster Diver Pulled From Water

A driver was lost underwater in Mission Bay Tuesday night after he was separated from his diving partner, according to San Diego Lifeguards.

The free divers were in the water no longer than 40 minutes when they became separated at around 8:30 p.m. About 10 minutes later, the diver found his partner underwater, pulled him to the surface and police started performing CPR.

Paramedics arrived and continued CPR as they put him into an ambulance. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center and pronounced dead Wednesday morning.

Lifeguards do not know exactly what happened to the victim or if he had an underlying medical condition.

The two men were diving for lobster. Lobster season opened last Friday. Since then, lifeguards say they have responded to several emergency calls.
