Deputies who surrounded the home of a suicidal hospice patient confirmed the 75-year-old man was dead inside his Lakeside home.
When the patient pulled out a gun to shoot himself, his nurse tried to intervene deputies said.
The man fired the gun, injuring her hand deputies said.
A SWAT team arrived to the home on Morning Dove Road in an armored vehicle, making announcements to try and convince the man to come out.
At 4:30 p.m., deputies made entry into the home and confirmed the hospice patient was dead inside.
The nurse suffered a superficial wound and was taken to the hospital at about 1 p.m.
