Power Restored After Hit and Run Driver Strikes Pole

The power outage affected nearly 3,000 customers in Lakeside and Santee

Power was restored to Lakeside residents Sunday morning after a hit and run driver struck a power pole overnight, causing an outage, officials said.

California Highway Patrol officials said a hit and run driver slammed a red SUV into a power pole at Westhill Road and Marilla Drive. The driver fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Visible damage was done to the power pole upon impact.

As a result of the collision, the power went out for 2,865 customers in Lakeside and parts of Santee just before 3 a.m., San Diego Gas & Electric officials confirmed.

SDG&E crews worked through the night to restore power to residents. Nearly everyone had their power back by Sunday morning, with the exception of about 70 customers.

By 2:30 p.m., nine customers remained without power. Full restoration was expected by 6:30 p.m., according to SDG&E.

Officials are still searching for the driver of the hit and run collision.
